The Chester Competitive Festival of Performing arts is a charity that runs two festivals, one for speech and drama in March and one for music usually at the end of April or beginning of May. The purpose of these is to give (mainly) children a platform to perform on with critique by professional adjudicators. It helps to give them something to aim for and assists in developing a more confident and rounded person. We also provide an opportunity for competitors who have taken part in the festivals to perform at concerts. This is a jumping off point for an unofficial round-up of the huge number of non-professional orchestras in the UK (also called community orchestras in some circles). A large number of them now have their own websites, and I get frequent e-mails from people looking for places to play and letting me know of orchestras I need to add to my list - I welcome the correspondence! So, if you're looking for somewhere to play or somewhere to listen, have a look at our website - I'm adding new entries all the time!
